Bucket chemistry

My wonderful high school science teacher Mr S. would say there was 2 types of labwork-

  1. Test-tube chemistry
  2. Bucket chemistry

His fellow students had invented the distinction at university. Monday to Friday lunchtime was for proper work. Serious stuff with lots of learning.

But Friday afternoons was for whimsy and curiosity. Buckets replaced test tubes, but it was still chemistry, never alchemy.

I’ve seen the same split in coding and software engineering. A customer request for one-off old data - bring out the bucket programming.

Quick and dirty, gets the job done.
